Toronto, ON, April 1, 2005 - Avenza Systems Inc., producers of MAPublisher cartographic software, announces that the Department of Geography at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada has chosen MAPublisher software for use in their cartography lab.

“MAPublisher will play an important role in the new cartography program at our university”, said Glen Crewe, Remote Sensing and GIS Specialist and overseer of the Geographic Information and Digital Analysis Laboratory (GEOIDAL) at Memorial University of Newfoundland. “Cartography involves the compilation, organization and visual representation of spatial information and a variety of geographical information can effectively be communicated through good cartography by combining existing software and processes with the design and production capabilities that MAPublisher affords”, he added.

MAPublisher will be primarily used in the Geographic Information and Digital Analysis Laboratory (GEOIDAL) by staff and students towards a diploma in geographic information sciences. Students will be able to take advantage of the graphics capabilities of MAPublisher to produce high-quality maps.

The Geographical Information and Digital Analysis Laboratory (GEOIDAL) is a fully operational facility for remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) training and research. Supported by the Department of Geography, Memorial University of Newfoundland, it is a centre for education and research in spatial analysis.
