USA Population Density Map

Population density difference
between 1990 and 2000 in the 48 contiguous United States

This interactive Flash map was created by the Avenza Systems Technical Support and QA team, using only Avenza MAPublisher® 8.0 for Adobe Illustrator CS4 and Avenza Geographic Imager® 2.1 for Adobe Photoshop CS4. No external post processing was employed.

The original GIS data was imported into Adobe Illustrator using MAPublisher 8.0 and was transformed (reprojected), re-scaled, and re-positioned appropriately. All vector line work for the rivers and the state and county boundaries were pre-processed with the MAPublisher Line Simplify tool while keeping all topological relationships intact.

Demographic density variables were calculated through expressions built using the MAPublisher MAP Attributes panel. Symbology was assigned using MAPublisher's MAP Stylesheets functions and text labels on the inset map were created using the MAPublisher MAP Tagger tool and linked map attribute information. Geographic Imager was used to import, transform, and crop the background shaded relief image. MAPublisher was then used to register the georeferenced image using the MAPublisher Register Image tool.
