What Geographic Information Systems (GIS) file formats does your MAPublisher import?

All versions of MAPublisher import the following formats: USGS (dlg, sdts), AutoCAD (dxf) MapInfo (mid/mif), ArcInfo (gen), ArcView (shp) files plus government satellite images and aerial photography with all database attributes intact. Version 5.0 also imports MicroStation dgn files. Version 6.0 imports all the aforementioned as well as DWG and TIGER/Line. Please check each specific product link for complete details.

What is meant by "all attributes intact" ?

MAPublisher imports the map data files directly into Adobe Illustrator and Macromedia FreeHand with no conversion hassles. All of the line, point or polygon attributes can be viewed, edited or manipulated within the graphics environment. This means that any underlying database information that resides in the GIS file (such as street names and statistical information) is also imported and can be accessed and edited within your chosen graphics application.

What other features does MAPublisher have?

MAPublisher gives the user the ability to: re-project and scale map data; auto-label with text; create a map legend and index; edit the attributes from a spreadsheet-like table; import, place and scale a geo-referenced air photo; query the attributes for image selection and manipulation, reduce the data set by joining common line segments and much more! For a full rundown on the features of MAPublisher please go to the product fact page here.

How does MAPublisher import GIS data files?

Each map element (roads, municipal boundaries, areas) is imported into a separate layer for easy customization and manipulation within the graphics environment.

Can I export my map once I am done in Illustrator or FreeHand?

In MAPublisher you can save your map in a number of vector or raster based formats as well as other GIS mapping formats, including Shapefile and MID/MIF formats as well as .e00 format for text. Please check each version's specific information page for the complete list of export formats supported by each version. You can also save as PDF to geo-enable your website or for cross-platform applications.

Can I upgrade from MAPublisher Lt to MAPublisher?

Yes and no. If you purchase MAPublisher Lt you will receive a coupon good for your money back towards the purchase of a full version of MAPublisher within 60 days. As such if you find that you should have bought the full version you have 60 days to trade up without penalty. After the 60 days are up there is no longer the upgrade possibility and you must purchase a new full license of MAPublisher at whatever price level you qualify for. Please contact our sales department for more information.

How easily does MAPublisher import ArcInfo files?

A simple question with an easy answer. Simply use either the ArcInfo ARCSHAPE function or the ArcInfo generate function to "export" your point, line and polygon layers (ArcInfo coverages). When creating ArcInfo generate files, if you have unique numeric values associated with your graphic features you need only calculate the coverage/user-id to these values prior to creating your generate files and then these values will be available to you after importing your files into MAPublisher.

Why should I do my mapping work in a graphics program?

With Adobe Illustrator and Macromedia FreeHand the map production process - from legend to final printing/publishing is faster, easier and provides superior quality graphics. MAPublisher allows you to retain GIS functionality within a high-end graphics programs like Illustrator and FreeHand and thus gives you maximum control over important things such as text and colour when producing your map.
