MAPublisher 4.0 is a suite of plug-ins for Adobe Illustrator 8.0.1/9.x and Macromedia FreeHand 9.x/10 that bridges Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology with high-end graphic design software for high quality creation, high resolution printing and electronic publishing of maps. Cartographic quality map production is now faster, easier and better.
Avenza understands that completing GIS graphics tasks is best performed in the right environment such as powerful graphics programs like Adobe Illustrator and Macromedia FreeHand. MAPublisher takes you into this environment seamlessly and effortlessly with the right GIS data management tools to facilitate the map production process. Using this fast, intuitive system, your map can transcend the ordinary and become a work of art.

Automatic map index creation - MAPublisher 4.0 makes the tedious process of map index creation easy, with it's new index creation tools. After labeling your map simply create a grid and select Generate Index Labels (ie. A,B,C...1,2,3..). Then use the new Make Index Tool to automatically generate a text file counting each labeled attribute and its corresponding cell location. This text file can easily be imported into Illustrator, FreeHand or any desktop publishing program.
Import ArcInfo export (e00) format -With MAPublisher 4.0 you now have direct access to one of the most popular GIS file formats, ArcInfo e00. Our new importer supports many of the most common projections used in e00 files. We've even included a special decompression utility program, as many of the e00 files come in compressed format.
Import DXF format (r14) now with colours, fills & strokes - AutoCAD and MicroStation users will enjoy our new DXF importer as it now supports R14 version files with colours, line weights, stroke patterns and text.
Import MapInfo mid/mif now with colours, fills & strokes - MapInfo user will find our new MID/MID importer decreases the effort when moving files from MapInfo to MAPublisher. MAPublisher 4.0 supports line weights, colours, pattern styles for fills and strokes, fonts and most common projection parameters used in MapInfo.
Import multiple files at once - MAPublisher 4.0's multi-file import capabilities reduces the time needed to create complex multi-layer maps. The new importer will examine all the selected files and automatically size the total area to your page.
Export ArcInfo e00 text annotations - MAPublisher 4.0 gives you the ability for exporting e00 text labels. This allows you to do all your attribute labeling with Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia FreeHand and then import those annotations to ArcInfo.
Import GIS data to existing graphics layers - In previous version of MAPublisher you had to have multiple layers containing the same type information if the originating information was in separate files. The import to same layer function allows you to merge layers of similar attributes making your map easier to label and transform.
Import ASCII point files - GPS data (typically in ASCII text format) can now be imported directly into MAPublisher without the need for processing by costly GIS/GPS file conversion packages.
Register Geotiff files - Georeference GeoTIFF files easily with MAPublisher's new register image filter. We've also included the MrSID viewer which can now export GeoTIFF files, allowing you to use MrSID files with MAPublisher.
Intelligent Projection Editor - MAPublisher Projection Editor has been redesigned to make it easier for first time users to use. It also now remembers imported projection and projection changes, making it easier to georeference data from various sources.
MAPublisher 4.0 also contains the following features found in MAPublisher 3.5:
MAPublisher Import Filters: for importing the most commonly used vector Geographic Information System (GIS) file formats with all attributes intact; DLG, SDTS, ArcInfo generate, ArcView Shapefile, DXF, and MapInfo MID/MIF file formats can be imported, then scaled to a chosen page size and map scale. MAPublisher now imports and registers georeferenced JPEG and TIFF files and delimited text files for database functions.
Map Scale Tools: The Map-to-Page projection feature mathematically converts the Earth's curved, three dimensional surface to flat map sheets; the transformation feature converts the native coordinate system to scaled map sheets; the scale can be calculated into accurate real world coordinates; use your native projection, or you can convert to your choice of one of 119 projections; tiles map files together in real-world coordinates; and preset the orientation of X and Y axes.
Table of Attribute Values (Data Management): With "Table of Attribute Values", view, edit and update the data attribute/code list in spreadsheet form; edit or update an attribute list in a spreadsheet style interface; and select objects and view their attributes on the fly.
Map Column Tools: let you assign attributes to newly added objects and modify existing attribute columns through list, add and drop column features.
Add Column: add a new attribute column for a layer.
Edit Column: calculate values for several objects in one step
Drop Column: select a column to drop from a pull down list
Selection Management Tools: Customize your map with Layer Management Tools such as "Select By" attributes or by feature type. You can select a limited set of features by attribute or code, or by feature type for viewing and editing.
Feature Text Label and the Tagger Tool: enables you to label features using selected attributes, making tasks like street labeling easier. Options allow you to include pointer lines or place text along lines.
Map Location tool allows you to quickly identify geographic locations and display map scale and anchors in a floating pallet.
