The new Import MAP functions allow for both Simple Import for quick uncomplicated importation of map data files with little or no customization on import as well as Advanced Import for simultaneously importing multiple files in varying projections, changing projections on import and matching imported data to existing layers. Both import methods support a wide variety of GIS data formats including AutoCAD dxf and dwg, ArcInfo e00 and gen, Arcview shp, MapInfo mid/mif and tab, Microstation dgn, TIGER/Line, USGS DLG and SDTS and ASCII points. The screenshots below show the Advanced Import dialog before importing data and the Adobe Illustrator CS artboard after import of the data using the advanced method. Advanced import allows for the selection and listing of multiple files for batch import including relevant attribute data and geographic information. Easily include additional files or remove them from the import list. Grain values are now automatically calculated and applied to simplify complex data on import.

The new MAP Views palette is the hub from which you can manage all your map layers and access many additional MAPublisher features. The MAP Views palette displays all the Illustrator layers that exist in the current document as sub-layers of distinct coordinate systems, or "MAP Views". From this palette you can easily specify and change projections, edit scales and data placement, merge layers and export artwork to GIS data formats. Matching projections, scales and other coordinate system attributes between layers is now as simple as dragging and dropping. The screenshot on the left shows the MAP Views palette complete with individual MAP Views or coordinate systems and each component artwork layer. The screenshot on the right shows the open MAP Views editor dialog from where transformations are applied and coordinate systems' parameters are edited.

. ...

Within the new MAP View palette you can easily and quickly specify projection parameters for MAP Views or layers that do not currently include projection information, using the Specify Projection dialog (screenshot on left). When creating new MAPublisher layers or dragging existing Illustrator layers to a current MAP View you can specify a feature type (line, point, area, text, legend) for the new MAP layer (screenshot on right).

With MAPublisher 6.0 support in now provided for Adobe Illustrator symbols and styles. Using the new Stylesheets palette it is easy to automatcially apply one-to-one mappings of Adobe point symbols, line styles and area fills to map data based upon data attributes. Create your own unique symbols and styles, use the existing Adobe Illustrator ones or download new ones from the Internet. In either case, MAPublisher 6.0's Stylesheets function makes it easier than ever to symbolize and stylize your map.

The new MAPublisher 6.0 Point Plotter makes it easy to automatically plot points in either decimal degrees or DMS formats on any projected plane and have the points automatically rendered using symbols from the Adobe Illustrator symbol library. Simply input known co-ordinate values and the point will be plotted in the correct location regardless of the current map projection.

New to MAPublisher 6.0 is the Floating License option which allows for the deployment of MAPublisher on an unlimited number of computers on a network such that a specified number of cimputers can be using MAPublisher at any one time. Floating licenses are a very cost-effective way to empower multiple users in a large workgroup to have access to MAPublisher without purchasing individual licenses for each user or computer. The Borrow License or Checkout License function (see image on left) allows users to use a floating license on a laptop computer for a specified time period while disconnected from the primary network.
