New Nairobi, Kenya City Map Project
May, 2005. Avenza will support HarrysMaps of Switzerland and the
Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD)
project to remap the city of Nairobi, Kenya. Along with other supporters such as P'Auer Printing Inc, Adobe Systems Inc. and Yupo Europe GmbH, Avenza will provide software and services free of charge to this not-for-profit project whose ultimate goal is to provide local decision makers, authorities, investors and tourists with handy, high quality paper maps for daily use. “MAPublisher will play an important role in the creation of the high-quality maps, set as our ultimate goal for this project” said Harry Keller of HarrysMaps, the chief cartographer and project supervisor. “We are all well aware of MAPublisher’s ability to easily and effortlessly create great maps and we are very pleased and thankful for Avenza’s support for this project”, he added. In a demonstration of great response, MAPublisher 6.2 was released to afford Adobe Illustrator users with immediate compatibility with the new Creative Suite 2 (CS2) release of Adobe Illustrator. The Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies Makes Avenza's MAPublisher Their Choice for Cartographic Software

Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies at the University of Arkansas (CAST)

A New Map For Apeldoorn
GEO:connexion - February, 2004. In the summer of 2001, the geographic department of the city of Apeldoorn (pop. 154,000) in The Netherlands sought a better way to produce small-scale maps. Up until that point, 1:10.000 and higher scale compilations (internally referred to as 'roadmaps') were produced in Bentley Microstation but their cartographic quality was poor... By generating them in Illustrator/ MAPublisher, cartographic quality was improved and style was maintained to a common consistency.

Enhancements include joined road and water line layers, proper name directories of states and counties, ZIP Code Tabulation Areas by state and concatenated road names to a single column for easier labeling and selecting.

November, 2001. MAPublisher-SVG, scalable vector graphics product initiative announced. Unlike standard SVG files, which are natively exportable by Adobe Illustrator, MAPublisher-SVG files retain all the data attribute tables and present them in a searchable and queriable manner. Through the use of the included JavaScript applets and HTML template files MAPublisher-SVG files can be searched and queried in an Internet or Intranet browser.

MAPublisher User takes Top Awards at ACSM Competition
FEBRUARY, 2000. MAPublisher user Charles Kitterman of
Kulshan Cartographic Services
took three top awards at the 27th Annual ACSM Map Design Competition. Kitterman, Principal Cartographer on the Mount Rainier Glacier Travel Guide project, won the awards for Best of Show, Best Category - Thematic and Best Category - Reference. The Mount Rainier Glacier Travel Guide (shown to left) included descriptions of historical high traverse routes on Mount Rainier, a topographic map, colour photographs and route profiles.
Avenza Software profiled in GIM International Magazine
DECEMBER, 1999. In the December issue (Volume 1) of GIM International magazine, Avenza Software was profiled in the Company's View section. University of Oregon wins ESRI 1999 Map Gallery Awards "Best of Show" and "Best Software Integration"
JULY, 1999. The University of Oregon, Department of Geography, InfoGraphics Lab picked up awards for "Best of Show" and "Best Software Integration" at the 1999 ESRI International User Conference in San Diego, California, July 26-30. Their project entitled
"Mapping the University of Oregon's Campus: Integration of GIS, Map Publishing, Facilities Mapping, and Architectural Applications"
is available for viewing online. Their
workflow for cartographic production
as well as the "Atlas of Lane County", a student project is also available.
"By using a diverse number of tools and data formats we are able to solve a wide range of multi-disciplinary problems and provide better and more extensive service to the University Community."
"The ArcView Shape files are converted into Macromedia Freehand using Avenza MaPublisher which maintains the map scale and projection. The Map Publishing part of the program relies primarily on Macromedia Freehand for the development of many products for print and for the web. The FreeHand database of graphics information is maintained and updated from the ArcView GIS Shape files. Using Freehand as the main application for map publications has allowed the Lab to work successfully with the graphic-oriented University Publications and Printing Services in creating high quality products. The Freehand files allow for more graphic control when producing a variety of web graphics: GIFs, PDFs, and Flash format files."
