    I’ve been having trouble with the concatenate feature. I have a GIS dataset where the street names are split into 2 parts. One column is Apple, George, Elm etc (column name “street”) and the other contains Dr, St, Ave (column name “type”) etc.

    I created a new column (“Name”)and used the expression builder to try to concatenate the data.

    Name = “Street” & ” ” & “Type”

    the expression builder validates my expression but when i run it just fills my new field with “True” or “false”

    what am i doing wrong?

    Hi Richard,

    Thank you for your post. After looking into this, it appears the formatting is just off slightly. When concatenating two fields, please be sure to do the following steps:

    1. Create a new field, and ensure the type is set correctly (e.g. string)
    2. In the Derive from Expression field, type the following: (Street)&” “&(Type)
    NOTE: important to use brackets not quotes for the field names you want to concatenate.

    If you are still having problems, please don’t hesitate to contact us via email at
