So I was wondering if in Mapublisher/Illustrator there is a way of automatically naming Illustrator-objects after specific attribute values of those same objects.
In my current project I have a huge amount of postal code areas (8000+) and I would like to have them all placed in the same Illustrator-Layer but with each object named after its unique postal code value.
I do know you can split layers by attribute values with Mapublisher and that the new layers then get named after those values, which for me works fine enough in most cases. But in this case it would create 8000+ new layers, each containing one unnamed object, which is not what I am after.

    Any thoughts/ideas?

    Hi Bernhard,

    Thank you for your post!

This functionality exists within MAPublisher. You can do this by applying an expression to change the #Name column to equal the corresponding Postal Code value. To do this, open the MAP Attributes panel, click the Show/Hide columns button, then click Show All to reveal the #Name column which reveals the unnamed objects in your layer. Click Apply Expression at the bottom, apply it to the #Name column and click the Postal Code attribute field as your Expression. After clicking OK, the objects should be renamed in the Layers panel.
