    Hi there,

    Thank you for your post!

It sounds like you may be interested in creating a Collection. A Collection is similar to a Folder in that you can group maps together, but a Collection will allow you to automatically shift from one map to another based on your location. The great thing about Collections is if you’re unsure what map you’re currently located on in the Collection, you can open one of the maps, tap the location crosshair/arrow in the bottom left and the map you’re located on will open automatically.

Please see this help article for Android and this help article for iOS.

If you have any other questions or problems please don’t hesitate to contact us via our Support form at help.avenzamaps.com > Get Help.

    Hi there!

We have a feature request filed to change the default placemark text as well.

Please update to Avenza Maps 3.7 from the Google Play Store and see if you are still experiencing the redrawing of placemarks whenever a new one is added. If you continue experiencing it on your Motorola, please contact us at help.avenzamaps.com by tapping “Get Help” to the right side of the page. Please let us know if you experience the same thing on your iPhone 7 and we can do some testing on our end.

    Hi Bernhard,

    Thank you for your post!

This functionality exists within MAPublisher. You can do this by applying an expression to change the #Name column to equal the corresponding Postal Code value. To do this, open the MAP Attributes panel, click the Show/Hide columns button, then click Show All to reveal the #Name column which reveals the unnamed objects in your layer. Click Apply Expression at the bottom, apply it to the #Name column and click the Postal Code attribute field as your Expression. After clicking OK, the objects should be renamed in the Layers panel.

If you run into any difficulties or have any further questions, please reach out to us directly using the Support Centre form at help.avenza.com > Contact Us.

    Hi Ruben,

Thank you for your post! If possible, please take a screenshot of the window and send it to us via the Support Centre form (help.avenzamaps.com > Get Help). The option to attach a file is at the bottom of the form. That way, we can inspect the issue and hopefully provide you with a fix or further insight into what may be occurring.

    Hi Claudia,

Thank you for your post! I understand that we were able to resolve your case over email but I will post a solution here in the event that anyone else has the same question.

On Android devices, please ensure that the layer you have linked to your map is set as the “Current Layer” if you are wanting to add new features to said layer. You can specify this on the Edit Layer page by long pressing the layer and tapping the pencil (Edit) icon at the top.

For either device, please ensure that visibility is toggled on in order to see your layer on the map. Sometimes visibility can be turned off accidentally which will hide all map features contained in the layer. To enable visibility on iOS, simply open the Map Features window from the Map view and tap the layer icon to the left to toggle visibility on/off. On Android, long press on the layer and tap the eye icon at the top to toggle visibility.

Please let me know if there are any further questions!

    Hi there,

    Thank you for your post!

If you are locating yourself in an area where you are underneath heavy tree canopy cover or tall buildings, the communication between the device and GPS satellites may be obstructed. If the signal is obstructed, the app may not be receiving consistent or accurate GPS location fixes and that is why you are seeing the location dot jump around on the map.

If you are using the app to track, there are certain settings (Settings > GPS) that can determine if GPS location fixes are acknowledged and recorded on a map. For example, if you set the app to ignore all GPS location fixes that have a horizontal accuracy that is greater than 8 meters, and the app is being fed location fixes with a horizontal accuracy greater than 8 meters, then the app will acknowledge fewer fixes and your location dot may appear choppy.

If you continue experiencing issues, please contact us via the Support Centre form at help.avenzamaps.com > Get Help for us to be able to provide better support. In your support request, please let us know what type of device you’re using, if the location jumping is occurring in other apps (ie Google Maps), and whether you can confirm that you are online (connected to a cell network or Wifi) or offline (not connected to a cell network or Wifi) when you are locating yourself in the app.

Please let me know if you continue experiencing this issue!

    Hi David,

Thank you for your post! We are aware of this issue and we can provide you with a fix. This error occurs when you have not yet created a new document in Illustrator. In order to fix this, please reopen Illustrator and click “Create New” to create a new document before opening the MAPublisher Importer. Once you create a new document first, that preference will be written and the error will not happen again even if you open Illustrator and click Import before creating a new document.

Please let me know if that works for you! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to let me know, or send an email via our Support Centre form at help.avenza.com > Contact Us.

    Hi Dave,

Thank you for your post! Avenza Maps 3.6, which is the version available in the Google Play Store, is compatible with Android 6.0 and higher. If your device is not running Android 6.0 or higher or is not able to update to OS 6.0 or higher then you will be unable to download the app from the Google Play Store. If possible, can you update your operating system? To do so, please go to the Settings app on your device and tap Software Update to ensure you’re running the highest version available for your device.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Hi Tomas,

Thank you for presenting your use case! I will create a feature request to implement the ability to set fixed dimensions for a shape and also to allow the option to automatically group shapes with corresponding text. If you have any further information you want to add or any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us directly via the Support Centre form at help.avenza.com > Contact Us (Get Help).

in reply to: Set dimensions for "Draw shape around text" #17189

    Hi Tomáš,

Thank you for your post! Currently, the “Draw shape around text” action in Text Utilities only allows for the ability to create a shape buffered around the text based on a set distance. In this case, the shape is dynamic and will change based on the size and length of your text. If you want the ability to set the dimensions for a static shape that will be used no matter the size or length of your text, I can go ahead and file a feature request for this. In order to expedite the consideration of implementing this feature, it would help to have a use case explaining how this feature would be utilized and why it would be beneficial to your workflow. When you have the time, please contact us with your use case via the Support Centre form (help.avenza.com > Contact Us) and I will add it to the feature request ticket. If you would like to have your contact details on the request so you are notified when this feature is implemented, please let us know in your use case email.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

    Hi there,

Thank you for your post. In order to select only features in HIGHWAY where the NAME field is empty, please first create a new Selection in the MAP Selections window and open the Expression Builder.

    The full expression is:

This will select features where the highway field contains a value (highway is not null) and where the name field does not have a value (an empty string).

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

    Hi Ryan,

I can’t confirm that any deliver sub-meter accuracy. The Surveyor is Bad Elf’s best option in terms of their Bluetooth GPS receivers which delivers ~1-meter positioning. Of the Garmin devices that I’m aware of, none of them advertise sub-meter accuracy. I recommend reaching out to Garmin with your inquiry as they can provide a more thorough response.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.
