    Hello!

    Thank you for the suggestion! Due to the way we handle the Geospatial PDF file when the map is imported into Avenza Maps (it is rasterized, tiled and flattened), this is not currently a possibility but it is definitely something that we could look at doing in the future when we are able to incorporate vector geometry.

    I will make sure that this is filed for future consideration!

    Kind Regards,

    Hello!

    I am happy to look into this further and file this with our developers.

    In order to better do this, would you be able to send me your file so that I can take a look at it in MAPublisher?

    You can reach out via help.avenza.com.

    To update this thread, it was brought to my attention recently that the Arrow 100 GPS device does work with Avenza Maps. The user was able to contact the company that makes and supports these devices and they provided instructions on how to get this working. I would recommend that anybody visiting this thread in search of any answers regarding the Arrow 100 compatibility to contact EOS Positioning Systems Technical Support as they will have the full details.

    in reply to: White boundaries around scanned paper maps #21776

    Hello Keith,

    Thank you for your question.

    Avenza Maps essentially detects the embedded referencing in the files which in this case, includes the white space around the maps. Although there is nothing there, the white space contains georeferencing so the extents of the georeferencing must be specified in the file prior to import. The only way to avoid this when scanning paper maps to digital would be to crop them in software like Geographic Imager for Adobe Photoshop. Unfortunately, in the app, there is nothing we can do at this time to prevent this another way.

    Hello!

    This could be due to a setting on some Android devices associated with the Camera App permissions. Please go to your Device Settings and then search for Camera, you will see that there is a Location setting under the Camera App Permissions that will need to be turned on.

    Please let me know if this fixes your workflow with ArcMap.

    Hello Caitlin,

    It sounds like photos were taken using your device’s camera app, those photos were then added to placemarks in Avenza Maps and then the photos were deleted from your Gallery, breaking the links to them. Your problem will require some further investigation so please contact us through help.avenzamaps.com.

    If you could please include the following information;

    – The version of Avenza Maps that you are using (found at the top of the Avenza Maps Settings page)
    – Would you please be able to step out your exact workflow so I can repeat your steps if necessary?
    – Did you take the pictures within the Avenza Maps app or with your phone camera and then add those images to placemarks in Avenza Maps afterwards?

    Each type of Android device may be different but if your photos were taken inside of Avenza Maps, your photos may be stored in an internal folder with a File path similar to this one;

    My Files > Internal Storage > Pictures > AvenzaMapsPhotos

    Images can exist here without being in the native gallery app.

    Hi Joe,

    Thank you for sharing your findings with us. I am sure that this will benefit a lot of users.

    Through some testing of my own, I have had success in rotating the device 90 degrees in a counter-clockwise direction to take a landscape photo. This is exactly what the JPEG spinner is doing for you, however, if you do this with your device, you will not need to extract the KMZ and rotate the images and then recreate the KMZ. Images taken this way have displayed accurately in Google Earth every time I tested it on both iOS and Android devices so hopefully this works for you as well.

    Hello Nicholas,

    Thank you for your feedback.

    This is a new feature that we have implemented recently in our 3.7 update and this feedback is incredibly valuable to us. I have looked into this issue and have found that the fields are not being retained when you move the placemark because the fields are currently in a “limbo” state at the point at which you move it. If you were to back out of the placemark to place it in a “saved” state and then go back into the placemark and moved it, your values for these fields would be retained. I completely understand that this is adding additional steps to your already lengthy workflow and I have raised this with our QA Team who are working with me now to improve this. On iOS, the process of moving the placemarks to a different layer is much faster and easier than on Android so we will be looking at aligning the two platforms.

    The main reason why we didn’t want the GPS averaged placemarks to obey the ‘current layer’ is that with the feature comes 4 additional attributes that would be added to the schema of every layer that one of the averaged placemarks is added to. We know from speaking with our users that multiple layers are used simultaneously for different types of data collection, with the active layer being switched all the time, so if the averaged placemarks were to obey the current layer, this data will be spread across multiple layers and additional attributes added to each specific schema. We had the idea to keep all of this data in one place instead of polluting other schemas with additional attributes. I can file a feature request for GPS averaged placemarks to obey the current layer and include your contact information (if you would like to provide it by contacting us via help.avenzamaps.com) so that you will be notified if this is implemented in a future update. Any additional information you could provide as to why this would improve your workflow would be really helpful.

    Hello Robert,

    That is a great question. I am not sure of any specific sources of data that would allow for this.

    What area would this be in regards to?

    Hello Jordan,

    Your symbols will be preserved if you export the layer from the iOS device as a KML and not a Shapefile as the Shapefile format does not have the ability to preserve symbology.
