    Hello Ruben,

This is because Avenza Maps is raster based software (like Adobe Photoshop) and not a vector based (like Adobe Illustrator). All vector data is rasterized on import. It’s not only the resolution but also the image size that will affect the final look of the map, the amount of zoom you can achieve and the files size. The file size will then affect processing times on import. We don’t normally recommend image sizes above 10,000 x 10,000 but this is possible as an image may have a very high resolution but a small disk size due to image compression. I would recommend trying some different export settings and image dimensions until you find something that suits your needs.

For more help and guidance, you can contact us via help.avenza.com.

    Hello Ruben,

When you import Geospatial PDF maps into Avenza Maps, they are rasterized and tiled (converted to an image). To achieve the zoom characteristics of vector data that you are thinking of, the app would need to support vector base maps which it currently does not. By importing your map as a GeoTiff, you can avoid some of the longer processing times associated with converting vector features to raster format.

Avenza Maps 3.6 is compatible with Android 6.0 and higher so you can download the latest version from the Google Play store on your Android device.

    Hello James,

Are you importing all of the PDF’s into MAPublisher at the same time using the Multiple Data Import tool? Are the files referenced using the same coordinate system?

Personally, I would export them individually from MAPublisher as GeoTiffs and mosaic them together in Geographic Imager if you have access to the software. If the files do not line up with each other properly, it would also be easier to correct the georeferencing in this software.

I would suggest contacting us through help.avenza.com so that we can take a look at your workflow in more detail.

in reply to: Android 4.4.2: which version of Avenza Maps? #18551

    Hello Walt,

Unfortunately, we no longer support version 3.2.2 for Android OS 4. Avenza Maps 3.6 is compatible with Android 6.0 and higher. If your device is not running Android 6.0 (or newer) or is not able to update to OS 6.0 or newer then you will be unable to download the app from the Google Play Store.

If you have purchased maps on the Avenza Map Store, you would not lose them as they are saved to your Map Store account and can be easily downloaded onto a new device from your Purchase History. If you need any help with this in the future, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at help.avenza.com.

    Hello Mike,

Thank you for the post. The way Avenza Maps currently works is by extracting the GPS information from the devices location stream (the data the phone collects) and using it to locate you on your maps. This means that in order to receive readings from an external GPS unit that is connected to the phone, the external GPS has to update or feed its data into the devices location stream for Avenza Maps to access it.

There is not a way in the app where you can determine if your data is being provided by the external GPS unit as it will depend on how the unit works and there is not a direct link established between the external device and Avenza Maps. I would recommend doing two tests: one with the GPS unit connected and one with just your phone and compare the results. Sometimes you can see a difference in the tests and be able to determine where the data is coming from based on its accuracy but there is a lot of different factors that could affect your results so more tests in different places and using different maps may be required to reach a consensus.

    Hello Gatto,

Thank you for getting in touch.

I will need some more information from you regarding this problem you are experiencing.

Are you on a Mac or Windows machine? What operating system are you running on your machine? What are the specifications of your computer? What is the file size of the project you were working on when the freeze occurred? How many Map Selections are present in the document you are working with?

It would be very helpful if you could send a copy of the .ai file so that I can try to replicate your problem on my end. Have you also tried changing the intervals for recovery data saving in your Adobe Illustrator Preferences under File Handling & Clipboard? By extending this or turning off recovery data for complex documents, you may be able to solve the issue. Often save progress bars are executed in the background so quickly that they go unnoticed but with larger projects, when MAPublisher writes to the .ai file, it can take your machine longer to process the save.

If you could send us an email via our Support Centre (help.avenza.com) referencing your post here with the information I have requested and a copy of your file I can begin looking further into this issue.

    Kindest Regards,

    Hello,

    Thank you for contacting us.

Avenza Maps is a mobile application and cannot be downloaded onto laptops and computers. While we did offer the Windows 10 version of the app previously, we have since discontinued support for it, and as such have removed it from the Microsoft Store.

Below is a link where you can download the application file if you wish to continue to use it, however, please note that we are not supporting this version anymore, and it should be used primarily as a PC Viewer for Windows 10.

    https://www.avenzamaps.com/maps/pc-viewer.html

Once you have downloaded the file, unzip it and go to the following path to install the app:

    AvenzaMapsForWindows\QA\UWP\AvenzaMaps.Windows_2.1.39.0_Test\AvenzaMaps.Windows_2.1.39.0_x86.appxbundle

Once the file is unzipped, double-click on the appxbundle, select Install, and the app should be installed on your computer.

If you have any questions or problems please don’t hesitate to let me know.

    Hello Desmond,

Thank you for reaching out to us with your question.

The Display Format is essentially just a Display Format for viewing maps. Everything is actually being done in WGS-84 behind the scenes as the longitude and latitude components of KML files (our main export format) are defined by the WGS84 coordinate system.

With a Pro Subscription, you can work with Shapefiles, a format that does allow for other coordinate systems to be used by storing different projection formats within a .prj file. You are given the option to export in Map Default when working with Shapefiles in Avenza Maps where the data is transformed on export.

Throughout the whole process of working within the app, corrections are taking place in the background to make sure that data isn’t shifted incorrectly.

If you would care to share your companies workflow with us, perhaps we can suggest some workaround for you if you are having any difficulties. You can contact us through help.avenzamaps.com.

    Hello there,

    Thank you for your post.

If the USGS topo map was downloaded from the Avenza Map Store, you can transfer it over to your new phone by signing into your Map Store Account on your new iPhone and downloading it from your Download History.

To sign into your Map Store Account, please tap on Account (head/bust icon) available from the Maps List, or Map Store. Once there, please enter your email and password associated with your Map Store account. You will then see your Download History (if you are already signed in, please click the account icon and you will immediately see the download history).

If this is a map that you have imported, this must be re-imported onto your new device from wherever you have the map stored.

Any and all feature data (layers) must be exported to an external storage space e.g. DropBox before you switch phones as this is not information that is carried over with your account.

If this does not work for you or if you have further questions, please fill in the support form at help.avenzamaps.com and we can take a closer look at the issue.

    Kindest Regards,

    Oliver
