What should you do before updating either MAPublisher or Adobe Illustrator? The main answer is: check compatibility. However, we often receive common questions in Avenza Support as to why MAPubliser does not work after updating to the latest version of Adobe Illustrator CC. Here are a few notes that may help you out:
What is the .pdfmaps file?
In addition to having access to more than 350,000 maps in the PDF Maps Store, you can also import your own geospatial PDF and GeoTIFF files into the PDF Maps app. If you have a large collection of maps and data, you may already know that loading all these files can be cumbersome and time consuming. Luckily, there's a better solution to do this. The .pdfmaps file was devised as a solution for people or organizations who wish to load large collections of maps and data without having to import them one at a time. Here's how it works.
A usability issue was confirmed with MAPublisher 9.6.1 and Mac OS X. It happens at the operating system level. Fortunately, a solution is available.
- Mac OS X 10.11 (El Capitan)

When multiple MAPublisher dialog boxes are open, the active dialog box may appear behind other inactive dialog boxes. As a result, the actual active dialog box is partially or fully hidden and no options can be selected or adjusted. Eventually, you may have to restart Adobe Illustrator.
Do you have Adobe CC 2015 and would like to import Esri Geodatabase feature classes but the option is not available in the import dialog box?

Are you using Adobe Creative Cloud 2015? Would you like to improve the performance of Adobe Illustrator? If so, participate in the Adobe Illustrator GPU performance beta program by registering here. Your participation will significantly help to improve the performance of Adobe Illustrator in the future.
Adobe CC 2015 introduced a new feature in Illustrator Preferences and depending on the combination of the environment components, you might have already experienced that the performance can be really slow especially when making maps. We all know that many Illustrator files with cartographic projects can be very complex in terms of file size, layer/object structure, number of features, geometry, effects and tasks to every object applied. As a result, even if a supported GPU card is installed, the performance of Adobe Illustrator can be very slow.
We would like to introduce this beta program to you and our customers so that we can assist the Adobe Illustrator team to receive the customer feedback directly to help the development of the future version of Adobe Illustrator. If you could participate in this beta program, your voice will directly reach to the Adobe Illustrator team so that they can closely investigate to enhance the feature.

If you're experiencing slower performance in Adobe Illustrator CC 2015 when working with MAPublisher and map data, it could be the cause of two settings in Illustrator Preferences:
- Automatically Save Recovery Data
- GPU Performance
Disabling these options will improve performance.
To turn off Automatically Save Recovery Data, go to Illustrator Preferences > File Handling & Clipboard. Under the Data Recovery section, uncheck the Automatically Save Recovery Data Every check box.
